Last Friday, the James River Drip opened in Buchanan.

By Matt de Simone

Last Friday, the James River Drip opened its doors and coffee pots to the Town of Buchanan.

The new family-friendly diner is located in the building that was once J. Jordan’s Barber Shop at 19860 Main Street. Wood-framed mirrors from the original shop are still on the walls furthering the building’s legacy. Keith and June Morris of Buchanan own the new business.

The couple began their renovations of the old barbershop last August. The James River Drip is the Morris’ first experience owning a restaurant. They’ve worked hard to get the James River Drip ready for opening day.

“Every week, I still say I’m not ready,” June explained on Friday regarding their preparations to open. “Today and yesterday, we went home at 2 (a.m.) because we didn’t know if something would go wrong. So, I said, we’re just going to do it.”

The lunch rush was popping as customers coming and going enjoyed the Drip’s chili dogs and ice cream. The Morrises stood behind the counter with their staff preparing and completing orders, and patrons congratulated them on their new venture.

The James River Drip serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu that ranges from hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and mozzarella sticks to brownies, sundaes, and splits. A children’s menu is also available. For more information about the new restaurant, visit the James River Drip’s Facebook page.
