It is with great sadness that the family of Jared Patrick Arney of Botetourt County, Virginia, announces his passing at age 26 on Friday, March 4, 2022.
“I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20, inscribed on his baseball cleats along with many other Scriptures.
Jared was born on January 30, 1996, and raised in Botetourt County, Va. by his loving parents, Bill and Teresa Arney, alongside his twin brother, Will Arney, and younger sister, Katelyn Arney.
He graduated from James River High School in 2014 and continued his education at James Madison University (JMU), where he received a Bachelor of Science in 2017 and met the love of his life, Katie Arney. Jared and Katie enjoyed 6.5 years together, were joyfully married on July 24, 2020, and welcomed their Bernedoodle, Annie, to their family in 2021.
After Jared received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from High Point University in 2021, the couple made their home in Cary, N.C. Jared found his dream job working as a Physical Therapist for Results Physiotherapy in Raleigh, N.C., where he passionately served his patients and brightened the day of everyone who entered the clinic.
Jared enjoyed fishing, hiking, tennis, and above all, spending time with his family and friends. In his early years, his passion was baseball. He was an avid player and member of the James River Baseball Team, Legion Baseball Teams, and several travel baseball teams.
Faith in Jesus, sharing the Gospel, and serving others were the most important parts of Jared’s life. Growing up, he was an active member of his church Youth Group and participated in multiple outreach and mission trips. He was a devoted Small Group Leader at Intervarsity Christian Fellowship at JMU, where he mentored and impacted the lives of many young men.
Jared seized every opportunity to serve, including spending his spring breaks in Kansas City with JMU’s Alternative Spring Break Program and Guatemala and the Dominican Republic with Students International.
Jared had a heart of gold. He was the perfect combination of kind, patient, goofy, and adventurous. He never left a room without making someone laugh or feel seen, known, and valued. He lived his life for Christ, choosing a career as a Physical Therapist so he could love and serve people in need every day. Jared’s legacy is one of extreme kindness, humility, grace, compassion, and selflessness. Jared brought tremendous joy to everyone he encountered. He will be missed forever.
Jared was preceded in death by his grandfathers, J.C. Arney and Carlton Witt.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Arney; his parents, Bill and Teresa Arney; his twin brother, Will Arney and sister-in-law, Nicole Arney; his sister, Katelyn Arney; father and mother-in-law, Mark and Lisa Allen; brothers-in-law, Garrett and Nick Allen; his grandmothers, Mary Lou Arney and Jean Witt; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jared’s Celebration of Life took place on Saturday, March 12, 2022. The family received friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the Bonsack Baptist Church Atrium, and the service was held at 2:30 p.m. at the Bonsack Baptist Church Sanctuary.
