Virginia State Parks History and Culture Day at Natural Bridge State Park

June 15 is History and Culture Day at Virginia State Parks. Natural Bridge State Park is hosting several guided programs in addition to the Monacan Exhibit and the Base Camp discovery area. Learn about the historic resources that are the core of many parks.

At 11 a.m., join a ranger for a short walk underneath the bridge itself to learn about the famous (and infamous) stories surrounding park and property. This talk spans millions of years and explores the formation of the bridge and some of the famous people linked to its incredible history.

At 2 p.m., a ranger will help guests explore traditional Appalachian lifeways. This includes a demonstration of tools and techniques used in log cabin construction and a discussion of how changes in the mountains and forests affected the people that lived amongst them.

Admission applies for programs at the Bridge. For more information, visit online or call the park at (540) 291-1330

Great American Campout at Natural Bridge State Park

On June 22, Natural Bridge State Park will take part in their third Great American Campout. In addition to a night under the stars, rangers will be on hand for guided programs and to help with camp set-up, including a campfire program with s’mores.

At 9 p.m., join a ranger for a walk up to Jefferson Point to experience the forest at night and learn how the animals that live there have adapted to thrive in the dark.

Tent set up will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday and must be packed up by 11 a.m. the next day. Size is limited to six persons per tent per reservation and requires an $8 reservation fee, paid in advance at the Visitor Center. A ranger will be on hand at the campsite to assist campers. It is a primitive campground. Bathroom facilities will be available but you must bring any water you anticipate using. For more information, visit online or call the park at (540) 291-1330.
