The Bank of Fincastle holds its 35th 5K & 10K Run

By Matt de Simone

Last Saturday, The Bank of Fincastle held the 35th Annual 5K & 10K Run in partnership with First Bank, the Rotary Club of Botetourt County, and Botetourt County Public Schools (BCPS).

A crowd gathered in front of Central Academy Middle School (CAMS) on Poor Farm Road to encourage the lot of runners for this year’s event. Over 600 runners participated in the event that saw runners race through the Town of Fincastle, up and down a portion of Muse and Brughs Mill, then back through Fincastle down to CAMS.

Middle school student Allison Wertz designed this year’s logo.

Runners young and old galloped up and down the streets with smiles and determination. Many BCPS students competed in the event alongside many experienced marathon runners.

BCPS acted as a primary sponsor of the race and the Botetourt Rotary Club acted as co-coordinator/sponsor/presenter of the race. The Bank of Fincastle will remain the Title Sponsor.

Allison Wertz is a local middle school student who designed the logo that appeared on the T-shirts. She received a $100 check from the Botetourt Rotary Club. The run received art submissions from over 100 local students.

Nate Michener of Roanoke was the top male finisher of the 5K portion with a time of 17:29.3. Gabriella Rhodes of Daleville was the top female finisher of the 5K with a time of 24:34.1.

Andrew Parkins of Salem was the top male finisher of the 10K portion with a time of 37:15.4. Samantha Wilkinson of Blue Ridge was the top female finisher of the 10K with a time of 52:45.8.
