Douglas Lyle Kemp died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

He was a graduate of William Fleming High School in Roanoke, where he played junior varsity and varsity football. Doug was also a graduate of Virginia Western Community College. Doug proudly served in the United States Navy as a part of VF-32 strike fighter squadron. His love of aircraft extended to his career working at Allegheny Airlines, Piedmont, and US Airways. He was able to use his aircraft maintenance skills acquired in the Navy as a Maintenance Production Controller at Roanoke Regional and Pittsburgh International Airports. Doug worked with the Veterans Administration in Roanoke before his retirement. He was a member of High Bridge Presbyterian Church. Doug’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren.

Doug is preceded in death by his father, Herbert “Bud” Kemp, Jr.; his best friend and only brother, Mark Kemp; and grandson, Curtis Dobbs.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Connie Fox Kemp; daughter, Kristen Kemp Dobbs (David); his much beloved grandchildren, Kyra Dobbs, Hollis Dobbs, and Hadlee Dobbs; mother, Mary Atkins Kemp; nephew, Todd Kemp (Corrie); sisters-in-law, Kathy Fox Loomis (David) and Marilyn Kemp Bell (Dean); long-time friend, Jack Vincent; numerous cousins and relatives, as well as several close friends from his days in the Navy with whom he kept in touch over the years.

A memorial service to honor Doug’s life will be on Friday April 5, 2024 at 1 p.m.at High Bridge Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Willis officiating. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
