April 30, 1946 – June 9, 2025

Donald Reid Ketron, affectionately known as Don, passed away peacefully, cared for with love by his niece, Renee Ketron Nelson of Bradley, S.C., and his long-time caregiver and devoted friend, Robbie Mills of Abbeville, S.C.

Don, born April 30, 1946, lived just the way he wanted – no apologies, no compromises. He was a proud United States Army veteran, having served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. Don carried the memories and meaning of that service throughout his life and it remained one of his proudest accomplishments.

Don was preceded in death by: his devoted wife and soulmate, Shirley Patterson White Ketron of Eagle Rock; his father, LB Ketron of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; and his brother, Thomas Richard “Tommy” Ketron of Leesburg, Va.

Don is survived by his mother, Mary Ketron of Leesburg; brothers, Ronnie Ketron of Warrenton, Va.; Robert Ketron of Leesburg; Larry Ketron (and wife Sue) of Dickerson, Md.; and David Ketron (and wife Lisa) of Abbottstown, Pa.; daughter, Kimberly White-DePriest; grandsons, Austin Salyards, Alex Salyards, Cullen White; and great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Salyards, of Eagle Rock; son, Jeff Ketron; and grandson, Jeffrey Wayne Ketron, of Winchester, Va. ; along with several nieces and nephews from across the family.

True to himself to the very end, Don lived with strength, confidence, and a defiance of convention, living just the way he wanted. He left behind moments and memories that people will carry with them.  He is deeply missed!

Don’s wishes for his final resting place are being honored with a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Don’s memory with donations to Disabled Veterans of America (https://www.dav.org).

The family wishes to extend gratitude to the Veterans Affairs of Augusta for their years of support and caring.  The work you do for veterans is invaluable. Thank you!
