The James River boys hope to end the soccer regular season on a high note tonight when they host Radford on the Springwood pitch. River is on a roll after shutting out two Three Rivers District opponents last week.
Last Thursday the Knights blanked Alleghany, 5-0, on “Senior Night.” Justin Hill led the charge with a three goal hat trick and also added an assist. Levi Miller had a goal and assisted his brother, Silas, on another.
“Senior Night was wet, but a success,” said coach Jared Whiting. “We came out strong and kept the pressure throughout the game. Midfield was dominant all night pushing the ball forward. We remained patient and finished when the opportunities opened up.”
On Monday at home Landon Tolley was in goal for his second straight shutout as River downed visiting Carroll County, 3-0. Hill, John Laughridge and Craig Bowyer scored for River and Hill, Bowyer and Levi Miller all had assists.
“We came out and played the best overall soccer so far this season,” said Whiting. “We played our possession game with patience and purpose. Ball movement was key in this game and we did it well.”
The Region 2C tournament will begin at sites to be determined a week from tonight.
