The James River baseball team will wrap up the regular season with two games this week. The Knights are at Floyd County tonight and home for a game with Radford on Thursday.
River comes into the week with a 3-1 record in Conference 38 counting games, with the conference tournament due to begin next week. River’s only loss in conference counting games was to Glenvar.
The Knights are 5-10 overall after dropping a non-conference game to Group 3A Staunton River last week in Moneta. Landen Horton pitched a strong game against a Staunton River lineup full of good hitters, allowing only five hits in a 2-1 loss. He struck out five in a complete game effort.
“We lost, but it was one of the better games we played all year,” said River coach Harry Falls. “We might be getting hot at the right time.”
Both Staunton River runs came in the bottom of the third. The Knights got one back in the sixth when Coulter Hodges singled, stole second and scored on a double by Horton. River then loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but couldn’t push the tying run across.
