The James River girls’ soccer team will host Patrick County tonight, Wednesday, in the first round of the Region 2C tournament. The game kicks off at 6 p.m. in Springwood.
The Knights are the eighth seed in the 16-team tournament. The winner of tonight’s game will advance to a quarterfinal game on Friday in Nelson County against the top-seeded Governors.
River comes into the tournament with a 9-8 overall record. The girls dropped their final game of the regular season at Carroll County last week, 1-0, under rainy conditions.
“An exciting game with a high quality of play was little consolation to the visitors as they rushed off the field in a downpour to make the long, wet trek home,” said River coach Bill Smith.
The James River boys played host to Carroll County last week and dropped a 3-2 decision in their last home game. The boys also played at Floyd last Friday and fell 8-0 to end their season with a 1-16-1 record, failing to make the eight-team Region 2C tournament.
