The James River girls will open the Region 2C volleyball tournament against a familiar foe. River will play at Three Rivers District rival Glenvar at 6 p.m. Monday to open tournament play.
River played Glenvar twice during the regular season and lost in three sets both times. However, the Knights have come on strong late in the season, winning their last three matches and four of their last five.
Last Tuesday at Patrick the Knights won in three sets. Sydnee Breeding and Ashby Wilkes led the hitting and Chloe Helmandollar had a good night on defense.
“We had a great night offensively and defensively it was hard to score on us,” said River coach Linsey Firebaugh. “This was one of our best games all season.”
On Thursday the Knights wrapped up the regular season with a four-set win in Hillsville against Carroll County. River lost the first set but rallied to take the next three.

“We started off rocky but we came out firing in the second set,” said Firebaugh. “They were hurting us hitting holes in our defense but we adjusted and were able to shut them out the next three sets.”
The Knights finished the regular season with a 15-7 overall record. The Three Rivers does not play a district tournament this year.
