The James River baseball team will be in Salem today to take on the Class 4 Salem High Spartans. Game time is 5 p.m. and the jayvees will host Salem in Springwood at 5:30 p.m.

The varsity opened on Monday with a game at Staunton River in Moneta and dropped a 10-0 decision in Chance Henry’s first game as head coach. Logan Joyce started on the mound for the Knights and showed promise.

“The pitching was definitely the best part of our night,” said Henry. “Logan threw three innings and gave us a chance to win, which is all you can ask for. It just didn’t work out for us in the end.”

River will be back home to host Riverheads Friday at 5:30 p.m. and next Tuesday, March 19, the Knights are at Northside.
