The Lord Botetourt boys were second and the girls were fourth in the Region 3D indoor track meet at the Kerr-Cregger Indoor facility at Roanoke College in Salem on February 22. Christiansburg swept the team championships.
The highlight of the day for the Cavalier team was the boys’ 55 meter hurdles, where two Cavaliers broke the previous region record. Jeremiah Emmons-Mayo won the race in 7.99 seconds while teammate Savion Moon was second in 8.29. Dylan Knick was third in 8.57 for a dominating LB performance and all advance to the state meet at Liberty University on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Emmons-Mayo is now the LB school and 3D region record holder in the event.
Also qualifying for the state meet were Joey Isaacs and Emmons-Mayo in the 55 dash, with Isaacs winning in 6.80 and Emmons-Mayo taking third in 6.86.
The boys 4×200 relay advanced with a second place finish. That included Trenton Ruble, Ethan Webster, Isaacs and Emmons-Mayo. Emmons Mayo also won the triple jump in 39’ 4.75” and was second in the long jump at 19’ 4”. Bryson Cook had previously state qualified in the 1000 meters.
Also scoring for the boys, but not advancing to state, were Ruble in the 55(5th), Webster(4th) and Jacob Hodnett(6th) in the 500, Knick(sixth) in the long jump and the 4×800(4th) and 4×400(6th) relay teams.
Two girls’ relay teams made the state meet. The 4×800 team of Lauren Duff, Katie Cross, Brielle Jackson and Sofia Hernandez won the race at 10:47.35 and the 4×400 team of Duff, Brooklyn Hornback, Jackson and Hernandez was second in 4:32.82. Two girls advanced to the state in the 500, Duff with a second and Hornback with a third. Sydney Vokus had previously state qualified in the 1600 and 3200.
Scoring, but not advancing, were Jackson(4th) and Anna Hoover(6th) in the 1,000, Hoover(5th) in the 1,600 and Maddie Malue(6th) in the 55 Hurdles.
