The Lord Botetourt boys’ soccer team will take on William Fleming Thursday in the semifinal round of the Blue Ridge District tournament, and the Cavaliers will host the tourney semifinals.
Northside will play the winner of a “play-in” game between William Byrd and Staunton River at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by the LB-Fleming game. The championship game is Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Northside, following the girls’ BRD final.
The LB boys come into the post-season at 11-2-2 after sweeping three teams in the final week of the regular season. Botetourt beat Christiansburg 4-1, William Byrd 4-0 and Northside 2-0.
Goal scorers for the week included Trey Rice with three goals and one assist, Blake Myers with two goals and one assist, Gardner Branscom, Abe Barkett, Kyle Wood, Joe Crump, and Collin Ewers, all with one goal.
“Last week was just fun,” said coach Tim Wright. “From being with the guys to watching them play, and the opportunity to celebrate our five seniors Friday night, it was just a joy to be a part of their passion.”
The Class 3, Region D tournament will begin Thursday, May 24, and LB will open at home.
