The Lord Botetourt girls’ basketball team will wrap up the regular season tonight, Wednesday, with a home game against Staunton River. The Eagles came into the week at 18-3 overall, including a win over LB in Moneta, but the Cavaliers are hoping to turn things around and ride some momentum into next week’s Region 3D tournament.

Botetourt is 12-9 after two Blue Ridge District wins last week over Northside and Franklin County. The Cavaliers are still waiting for the final region bracket but coach Rene Favaro is expecting it will be a trip to 15-7 Abingdon next Tuesday night.

“Unfortunately, the system for region rankings is not a perfect one,” said Favaro. “We will likely be stuck playing Abingdon in the first round at Abingdon, a tough draw for us and them. We seem to never be able to avoid them.”

The Cavaliers celebrated “Senior Night” with a 63-31 win over Northside in Daleville on Feb. 10. LB’s lone senior, Jaiden Dann, scored a dozen points in the game while Natalee Bowling was on fire with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Maggie Hoover had 11 points and five assists.

“Natalee has grown and progressed so much throughout this season and I am so proud of her,” said Favaro.

On Monday in Rocky Mount the girls picked up a 51-37 win over Franklin County to improve to 6-3 in Blue Ridge District games. Bowling continued to shine with 27 points and six boards and Hoover had 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

“This was a tough battle with a much-improved Franklin County team,” said Favaro.
