The William Fleming girls visited Daleville for a Blue Ridge District basketball game last Friday and remained undefeated in the BRD with a 59-43 win over home-standing Lord Botetourt. Fleming improved to 15-4 overall with the win while LB fell to 10-9 overall and 4-3 in the district.

“William Fleming is a great team, and I was proud of how hard we played and never quit,” said LB coach Renee Favaro.

Fleming came out of the gate on fire and raced to an early lead, shooting over 40 percent from behind the three-point line. The Cavs struggled with the Colonels’ defensive pressure.

“We turned the ball over at costly moments that led to easy layups for them,” said Favaro.

Maggie Hoover led LB with 12 points and 13 rebounds to go with three assists. Addison Naff added 10 points, four steals and three assists.

LB also played William Byrd last week and raced to a 58-34 win in Vinton. Hoover had a big game with 15 points, 13 boards, six assists and three blocks. Natalee Bowling had 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds and also had five blocks. Naff added nine points and nine assists and Jaiden Dann also had nine points.

“It was a bit sloppy, but just glad to pull out a win and be back on the court together,” said Favaro after the girls went 12 days without a game due to winter weather.

LB was scheduled to host Northside Tuesday for Senior Night, but results were too late for publication. They’ll wrap up the regular season with a game at Franklin County next Monday and a home game with Staunton River a week from tonight, on Feb. 18.
