The Lord Botetourt girls’ basketball team was scheduled to play in the Lady Hornet Girls Tip Off Invitational Tourney in Fishersville last week but only got one game in. LB lost to Liberty Christian Academy in the opener before weather wiped out their second game at Wilson Memorial High School.
Botetourt lost 53-43 against a solid LCA team. The Bulldogs jumped to an early lead, shooting 73 percent in the first quarter. For the game LCA made 10 three-pointers.
“They are a veteran team and it showed,” said LB coach Renee Favaro. “We are young and still learning, but I was proud of the fight. The girls never gave up. We have things we will certainly need to improve, but we also did some things well.”
Maggie Hoover led Botetourt with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
The girls are scheduled to play at Blacksburg tonight, Wednesday, weather permitting. They go to Turner Ashby on Friday.
The James River girls opened with a 45-40 win at Rockbridge County last week. The girls are scheduled to host Rockbridge tonight.
