The Lord Botetourt girls soccer team will take the field for the last time before spring break on Thursday when they travel to Lynchburg to play E.C. Glass.
The Cavs will take a 1-2 record to the Hill City after their first week of action. Last Wednesday they opened with a 5-0 win over the Bees at Brookville High. Emma Rice had two goals and an assist to lead the team. Ally Spangler had a goal and an assist, while Falan Peters assisted on a goal by Autumn Estrada and Brookville had an “own goal.”
On Friday the Cavs had their home opener and dropped a 2-1 game to visiting Salem. The Spartans scored first off a corner kick and led 1-0 at the half. Salem scored early in the second half to go up 2-0, but a goal by Rice cut the lead in half. However, that proved to be the final score.
“I’m very proud of the girls, they played and moved the ball very well,” said LB coach Giuseppe D’Arpa. “We kept the pressure on Salem defenders for the majority of the second half, we just couldn’t get the ball to reach the back of the net.”
On Monday the girls traveled to Forest and lost to a strong Jefferson Forest team, 1-0.
