The Lord Botetourt golfers had a healthy lead and home links advantage when the Blue Ridge District regular season golf tour was set to wrap up on Tuesday. Botetourt was the host team for the final leg of the tour at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club.
The Cavaliers went into the match with a season score of 880, a 47-stroke advantage over second place Northside. LB senior Samir Davidov was out of town Tuesday and not in the starting lineup, but that shouldn’t have been enough for the Vikings to make up 47 strokes.
Last week at Mariners Landing the Cavaliers widened their lead with a team score of 295. Northside was second at 309 and Franklin County was third at 319.
LB’s Ashton Harper was the medalist with a three-under-par 69. Davidov was second on the day with a one-under 71 and also scoring for Botetourt were Jake Koffman with a 75 and Dylan Salvi with an 80.
Harper continues to lead the individual district season race with Davidov in second place. Koffman is fifth overall and Salvi is seventh with one match to go.
The Cavaliers also played a non-district match against E.C. Glass in Lynchburg last week. It was a nine-hole, par 35 match and LB coach Todd Smith gave his top golfers a day off.
“I took some of the other golfers so that the other top six wouldn’t keep missing so much school,” said Smith. “Also it was a good chance to get these other guys some match experience.”
Hunter Duncan led the Cavaliers with a 45, followed by Dylan Gonce at 46 and Hayden Firestone at 47. Tyler Meade shot 49, Tanner Lovern had a 50 and Ben Wilkenson had a 52.
Some of these golfers will be back in action Thursday when LB hosts Salem in a non-district match at 4 p.m. at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club. That will be the last match before the Blue Ridge District tournament on Tuesday of next week at the Hanging Rock Golf Club in Roanoke County.
