The Three Rivers District golf season tournament wrapped on Monday with a round at Hanging Rock and James River finished as runner-up in both the match and the regular season.

Floyd County finished as the season champion while James River tied Radford at “The Rock” to hold on to second place overall. Joey Schroeder led the Knights with an 82, followed by Ryan Steger at 83, Dylan Hicks at 84 and Silas Miller at 86 for a team score of 335.

River ended a busy stretch with two matches last week. At the River Course they shot 352 to edge host Radford by one stroke. Steger led with an 81, followed by Miller at 89 and Schroeder and Hicks with 91 each.

Then, on Thursday of last week, the Knights finished second to host Floyd County at Great Oaks. Floyd easily won the round with a 315, followed by River at 346 and Radford at 349. Miller had a 78 to lead the Knights and also scoring were Steger at 83, Hicks at 87 and Schroeder at 96.

At the conclusion of the regular season the all-district team was named and Steger and Miller were on the first team. Schroeder and Hicks are second team All-Three Rivers District.

“It has been such a joy to watch this team work hard and benefit from that work,” said coach Donna Cox. “If they continue to play well, the regional match looks promising.”

The Region 2C tournament will be played on Monday, September 27, at the Old Mill course. In the meantime River has a non-district match against Alleghany and Covington on Thursday of this week.
