Lord Botetourt junior Kendal Howard is the Virginia High School League Class 3 state champion in the discus. Howard won the event at the state meet held at Liberty University last weekend.
Howard’s distance of 161’ 7” won the event by over 20 feet, as second place Tyler Copeland of Lafayette threw 140’4”. Howard also finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 45’11”, two spots behind teammate and fellow junior DJ Toliver, who finished fifth at 48’3”. The winning distance in the shot was 49’6” by Dante Bernardini of Charlottesville, a distance that Howard had bettered during the season.
LB senior Elijah Rose placed in two events. He was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles at 41.24 and he also took eighth in the high jump, clearing six feet even. Cavalier senior Jonah Clark also placed in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.12 to take eighth.
The LB boys finished 13th as a team with 22.5 points. Team state champs were the Tabb boys and Abingdon girls.
