The Lord Botetourt soccer teams will have key Blue Ridge District games this Friday as both take on William Byrd counterparts. The girls will host the Terriers while the boys will play at Patterson Stadium in Vinton.

The boys come into the week with a 5-3-2 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the BRD. Botetourt was scheduled to play at winless Staunton River on Tuesday of this week.

Last week the boys won two games, including a 3-2 win at home over William Fleming. That avenged a prior 1-0 defeat to the Colonels in Roanoke. The loss was Fleming’s first in the district.

Dylan Salvi scored a first half goal to give the Cavs a 1-0 lead at the half. Will Hall made it 2-0 early in the second period before Fleming rallied to tie the game at 2-2 on two free kicks with less than 10 minutes on the clock. The game went into double overtime, but Salvi scored off a throw-in by Chase Peery for the deciding goal and a huge win for the Cavs.

A night later the boys played at Brookville and took a 4-1 win. Hall, Cole Salvi, Dylan Salvi and Bryson Harvey all scored for the Cavaliers and the Bees averted a shutout with a late goal to account for the final score.

The girls played the same two schools last week and had no trouble picking up two wins at opposite locations. The girls played at Fleming and won, 13-1, then hosted Brookville and shut out the Bees, 6-0.

The two wins gave the girls an 8-2 overall record and they lead the Blue Ridge with a 4-0 district mark. The girls were scheduled to host Staunton River on Tuesday before hosting Byrd on Friday.
