The Lord Botetourt volleyball team ran their winning streak to six straight matches and took over first place in the Blue Ridge District with three wins in three nights last week.

The Cavaliers opened the week with a three-set win over William Fleming in Daleville, 25-5, 25-3 and 25-2, as they outscored the Colonels 75-10 over the three sets. Fleming had a hard time returning LB’s serves as Skylar Morris had 10 aces, Erica Gergely and Gracelynn Clark had six each and Christina Ellis had four.

A night later, also at home, the Cavs took down Cave Spring in four. LB lost the first set, 25-14, but regrouped to take the next three in a row, 25-12, 25-21 and 25-16. Becca Huddleston led Botetourt with 16 kills and three blocks, Nora Spickard had 11 kills and Emma Rice had 10. Ellis had 19 digs, six aces and two kills, while Skylar Morris dished out 39 assists and Brie Beddingfield had 14 digs.

The Cavaliers were off to Rocky Mount for their third match in as many nights last Thursday and they won again, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-19. Huddleston had 13 kills and four blocks, while Rice had nine kills and Gergely had eight. Morris had 38 assists.

“We had another great week,” said coach Julie Conner. “We passed the ball really well against Franklin County and picked up a big win.”

The win lifted LB to 9-4 on the season and the Cavaliers were scheduled to play at Staunton River on Tuesday. On Thursday they’re at William Byrd where the Terriers sit in second place with just one district loss, and next Tuesday, October 11, the girls are back home to host Northside.
