LB tennis team rained out of matches in Salem

The nomads that are the Lord Botetourt tennis teams were rained out of matches in Salem last week as the boys and girls were scheduled to play on the same day for one of the few times this year.

The Cavaliers had called the Hollins University courts their home in recent years, but Hollins pulled the rug out from under the Botetourt teams shortly before this season. Since there are no tennis courts at Lord Botetourt High, the Cavalier teams are playing all of their matches on the road this season.

Last Thursday they were scheduled to play Salem, and the lucky Salemites have courts both at the high school and at the Salem Civic Center. The boys were scheduled to play at the high school and the girls were at the civic center, but Thursday rains wiped out both matches and they were rescheduled for May 11.

The girls did manage to get one match in last week against E.C. Glass, falling 9-0. All matches were eight-game pro sets.

“There were some really good points throughout all the matches,” said LB coach Shannon Quinn. “They all played really well, but all matches except for second singles lost 8-0.”

Olivia Turner put up a good fight before losing 8-3 at second singles.

Next week both teams hope to play William Byrd.
