The Lord Botetourt tennis teams will take on Northside Friday as the regular season nears an end. The boys will be at Northside and the girls will host the Vikings at Hollins University.
The boys come into the week with a 6-1 Blue Ridge District record and a 6-6 record overall. Last Friday at Hollins they moved into a tie for first place in the district with a 5-4 win over William Byrd at Hollins. The Terriers had been undefeated in the BRD to that point.
It was Senior Night for the Cavaliers as they honored the two seniors, Abdul Altawel and Srijal “Sri” Baniya. Botetourt took one through three singles with Ethan Steryous, Davis Kidd and Nick Wright all winning.
The match ultimately came down to doubles, with the team that won two out of the three doubles matches would secure the overall victory. Davis and Ethan handled their match confidently with a convincing win while Wright and Noah McCarren were also able to battle through and pull out a huge doubles victory.
“Arguably, this was the match of the year for those two,” said coach Tim Howard. “Noah and Nick have become much more confident at the net and found a way to consistently return balls deep into the court. This was an incredible performance from both players. What a great way to honor our departing seniors.”
LB also played at Salem last week and lost 5-4. Steryous, Kidd and Altawel won singles but this time the Cavs won just one of three doubles and Salem got the win. Steryous and Kidd won at first singles.
The Lord Botetourt girls beat Salem at Hollins, 8-1. Singles winners were Reagan Meade, Elaina Brown, Kennedy Dorsey, Gwyneth Farrar, Ava Duff and Sarah Meadows. In doubles Meade and Amelia Stump won at number one and Duff and Meadows won at number three.
The girls come into the week at 6-0 in the district and 9-2 overall.
