The Lord Botetourt volleyball team defeated William Byrd in three sets last week to solidify a spot at the top of the Blue Ridge District standing. LB took a 25-16, 25-23 and 25-12 win in Vinton.

It was a big win for the Cavaliers, as Byrd had a chance to tie LB for the top spot with a win. However, with the victory Botetourt improved to 6-0 in BRD matches while Byrd fell to 4-2. Franklin County also has just two losses and the Eagles play the Cavs in Daleville next Tuesday, October 18.

Becca Huddleston had a big day at the net for LB in the win over Byrd with 16 kills.  Emma Rice had nine kills and both Becca and Emma had two blocks each. Skylar Morris had 38 assists and 10 digs, Nora Spickard had seven kills and a pair of aces, Erica Gergely had six kills and seven digs and Brie Beddingfield had 14 digs.

The win was the second of the week for the Cavaliers, who defeated Staunton River in Moneta two days prior. That also went three as LB won 25-21, 25-14 and 25-18.

Huddleston had 12 kills against the Eagles, while Spickard had 10. Rice had five kills, two aces and 13 digs.

With the big week Lord Botetourt has now won eight straight matches and is 11-4 overall after opening the season 3-4. The Cavs were scheduled to host Northside on Tuesday and Thursday the girls are at William Fleming.
