Alan Wright, a critically injured volunteer firefighter, was honored at Blue Ridge Vineyard on Sunday, April 2, with a benefit concert. The ParrotHeads of the Blue Ridge hosted the event to help with expenses incurred since the near-fatal accident of June 23, 2016. Monies are still coming in, but according to Greg Jakubowski of the ParrotHeads, almost $5,000 has been given to Alan’s family.

Mostly, thanks to the many people who came out to support Alan Wright and our heroes in the emergency services.

Over fifty volunteers worked to make the day successful and also fun. Greg Jakubowski chaired the Steering Committee composed of other members of the ParrotHeads, along with members of the Eagle Rock Fire and Rescue Squad, Eagle Rock Ruritans, Blue Ridge Vineyard and community members: Kim Bass, Sharon Britt, Dale Jones, Mary Jakubowski, Ron Hollingsworth, Barbara Heller, Miranda Napier, and Darrell Johns.

Special thanks go to Rollers Smoke House and Flying Mouse Brewery for their support, along with The Ultimate Selfie Photobooth by Greg and Ann Sleboda, Face Painting with Shannon and Ricky Hicks, Samantha Jackson’s commemorative mason jars, Travis Woodson’s carriage rides, special exhibit honoring Alan by Sharon Britt, and Miranda Napier for securing donated baskets and sodas. Individual volunteers also include Dale Jones (top salesman of the commemorative “Wright’s Fight” glasses), Donna and Steve Vaughn, Haley Snead, Hazel and David Bowers, Chuck Fridley, Stacy and Lee Crabtree, and Diana Dixon. The Steel Rain Band provided a mix of classic rock and country music for over 200 supporters.
