Thanks Cress for street sign carvings

Editor:

In my recent letter to the editor thanking David Bordette and his father for the new street signs in the Fincastle Historic District, I failed to also thank Jake Cress for the carvings that he did to go with the signs. At the time I was not aware that he was the one who did those.

For those of you who have not seen them, you should make a trip over our way to do that. They are a beautiful addition.

Carnival is a testament to Buchanan’s community spirit

Editor:

Congratulations to the Town of Buchanan for a fabulous Fourth of July celebration! The parade, carnival and fireworks display were most impressive and represented a sincere observance of this important holiday.

Many people work very hard to make this celebration a reality. The Town of Buchanan staff, including Town Manager Susan McCulloch, Revitalization Manager Harry Gleason, Claudine Stump and Tina Kingery, Mayor Craig Bryant and the Town Council (Jamie Manspile, Marty Rickman, Chris Petty and Chris Witt) should all be commended for their efforts.

Further, and even more important, the many volunteers who work together in so many ways to make these events successful are invaluable! Volunteerism has defined this event for years and it would not be successful without the work of so many people. Many churches and civic organizations are represented in this volunteer pool, and the work you do in the community is valued deeply.

The carnival in Buchanan is a true testament to our community spirit and is one of the many reasons I am so proud to live in this area. Thank you to all who are working so hard this week, and I hope everyone can get out and enjoy the food, fellowship and festivities at the carnival.  Be safe everyone!
