Greetings Botetourt County,

It’s time for a broadband update for our neighbors in Northern Botetourt County, specifically the Arcadia/Greyledge Rd. area. As many of you know, there are 5 different companies providing broadband services to all of Botetourt County. Today I am specifically addressing the northern part of the Buchanan district, whose service is being provided by a cooperative effort between Dominion Energy and BARC Electric.

We know there have been a lot of questions about when broadband service will be available in this part of our county. BARC, Dominion Energy & Botetourt County have been meeting, and I want to give you an update. I, along with Botetourt County Administrators, met with Dominion representatives on NEED DATE and with BARC representatives on September 20, 2022. We were told in both meetings that progress is occurring in the area and that when the build is completed (they are on track to be done by December of 2023), there will be 60 miles of fiber, giving service to 569 homes. For those homes that choose to subscribe to this service, there will be options for people to select the speed of service they would like.

Additionally, there are federal programs available to aid those that meet income needs requirements. Marketing and communications from BARC will take place when the service is available to the community. In the meantime, please know that I am pushing this effort forward to the best of my ability and look forward to the day when this vital service is available to all residents.

For more information about BARC services, visit https://www.barcconnects.net/residential-internet/. We want to thank our community for their patience as we are moving closer to our goal of bringing reliable internet to our county through universal broadband coverage. Stay up to date by visiting: www.botetourtva.gov/broadband.

As always, please reach out to me if you have questions and/or comments about this or any other issue. I hope to see you all at Mountain Magic this weekend and wish each of you a very happy Fall season. Be kind to yourselves and to each other!
