December 31 – January 2

Books Make You Bright

Your “presents” is requested in our December reading & activity challenge! Log your books for the month to help us reach our goal of 1,000 books read during December. But wait…there’s “myrrh!” The reader with the most books read at the end of our challenge will win a holiday gift basket filled with goodies. “Yule” be sorry if you don’t participate this holiday season!

Go to botetourtva.beanstack.org and log in (or create an account if it’s your first time using the app). Earn a badge for every book you read. If you’re not sure what books to read, we have some holiday book suggestions for kids, teens, and adults that you can pick from! Ever read Jan Brett’s “The Gingerbread Christmas” for kids or John Grisham’s “Skipping Christmas” for adults? Give them a try!

You can also earn badges for doing special activities throughout the holiday season. There’s a badge for reading any books out of a list of holiday titles for kids, and another badge for holiday books for adults. Try “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas” by Eric Litwin (a picture book) or “A Christmas Story” by Jean Shepherd (yep, same as the movie).

A third badge launches you into a holiday countdown. Every day from December 1-25, there’s a special activity for you to try each day, worth various points. For example, you could go on a walk, make an ornament, share some cookies, send a card, have a pillow fight, or play a board game.

In a fourth badge, you’re invited to join the spirit of giving. Try letting someone cut in line, share a meal with a friend, hold the door for someone, volunteer at a soup kitchen, pay for the next person in line, donate to a local organization, or tell someone you love them.
