Library Buzz for Jan. 19 Edition

The Daleville Self-Service Library is celebrating its 1-year anniversary! After hearing community requests for library services in Daleville, Botetourt County Libraries partnered with the Botetourt Family YMCA to set up a materials pickup/dropoff location inside the YMCA facility. The new self-service satellite officially launched  in January 2021.

You might want to use this self-service option if you:

  • Live in/around or travel through Daleville.
  • Can’t always get to your “home” library branch during open hours.
  • Already visit the YMCA regularly.
  • Need to pick up or drop off items, but not browse.
  • Want to pick up StoryTime or Take-and-Make craft kits for the kids.
  • Don’t want to talk to anyone when you pick up materials!

Anyone with a Roanoke Valley Libraries library card can take advantage of this service. The YMCA is a great option since it’s open 7 days a week for more extended hours than our library branches. The Y is open: Monday-Thursday, 5am-10pm, Friday 5am-9pm, Saturday 7:30am-6pm, and Sunday 1-6pm.

To pick up materials at the Y, select “Daleville Self-Service Libr@rY” when you request items on RVL.info. Items going to the YMCA location are processed through the Eagle Rock Library, so you’ll get an email from them when your items have arrived. The email specifies that your items haven’t arrived at the Y quite yet, but they’re normally ready for pickup by 6:30pm that day.

Want to pick up StoryTime crafts or Take-and-Make activity kits for your kids? Kits are delivered on Mondays and Thursdays on a first-come, first-served basis. They disappear quickly, so grab them early!

When you get the Botetourt Family YMCA, enter the lobby. You’ll see a big library sign beside a table and shelves. Your items will be bagged and waiting on the shelves, labeled with a user ID for additional privacy. Children’s craft and activity kits, along with other informative materials, are available on the table.

Got library materials to return? Drop them in the labeled return bins. The items will be delivered to the Eagle Rock Library the next business day, and they’ll be checked in under the last business day’s date so they won’t appear late. (P.S. We don’t charge fines anymore, so don’t worry.)

Special thanks to the Botetourt Family YMCA for partnering with us to make it easier for people to read, learn and share in Botetourt County!
