Make Your Own Journal

Eagle Rock Library: Thursday, September 22 – Adults 10:00-11:00 a.m., Kids/Teens 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Journaling is a tool for self-reflection and self-awareness, and this daily practice can have many positive effects on our lives. Learn how to make your own journal using easy-to-find items.

 

Appalachian Voices Book Club

Thursday, September 22, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Eagle Rock Library

Discover Appalachia’s triumphs and tragedies, its beauty and mystery, and its people’s tenacity, love, and good humor through these reads. This month’s book selection is “A Land More Kind Than Home” by Wiley Cash.

 

Therapy Dog Reading Session

Thursday, September 22, 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Fincastle Library

Children ages 5-12 can read any book of their choice in a 1-on-1 session with a therapy dog, which can help them be more confident, less stressed and more focused later in the classroom. Call 540-928-2900 or any branch to register for your child’s 15-minute reading session.

Fincastle Days Local Author Discussion

The annual Fincastle Festival aims to highlight the history of Fincastle and promote today’s artisans, vendors, and business. The library will participate by hosting local authors through a drop-in meet and greet. Featured local authors include: Rachel Edwards, Chuck Finn, Rhonda McDonald, Rebecca Boone, and Suzanne Barron.

 

VA Career Works: Internet & Email

Tuesday, September 27, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Eagle Rock Library

Learn the basics of using the internet and email. Call 540-928-2800 to register.

 

Coffee & Connections

Drop by meet the special guest of the day and grab some coffee. Ask questions, share ideas, and get to know the people in your community!

Little Explorers

Tuesdays 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Fincastle Library

Thursdays 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the Blue Ridge Library

Toddlers can enjoy a special space for free play with educational and soft play toys while caregivers enjoy some social time with other adults.

 

STEM Club

Held monthly at each branch.

1st Tuesdays 3:30 p.m. – Fincastle

2nd Wednesdays 4 p.m. – Buchanan

3rd Tuesdays 2:30 p.m. – Eagle Rock

4th Tuesdays 4 p.m.- Blue Ridge

Grade school kids learn key STEM skills – how to experiment, make mistakes, and learn from their experiences. The projects we do in STEM Club are a fun way to increase critical thinking and logical analysis skills, instilling a lifelong passion for learning.
