Three members of the Lord Botetourt High School FFA Chapter recently attended the South Ridge Area Rally on March 11 at the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex in Chatham, Va. Students representing the chapter were Lilah Barker, Reese Lane, and Noah Meyer.
Each year, FFA members from the South Ridge Area gather for the rally to compete in regional events and prepare for upcoming state competitions. The South Ridge Area includes chapters from Alleghany, Craig, Botetourt, Montgomery, Patrick, Henry, Bedford, Roanoke, Campbell, and Franklin counties, as well as participants from Pittsylvania County. The event provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in various agricultural career development events.
During this year’s competitions, Lilah Barker competed individually in the Horse Hippology competition and placed in the top 30 participants. Noah Meyer also competed individually in the Agricultural Mechanics competition, where he was named the High Individual.
Reese Lane participated in the Small Engine Troubleshooting Career Development Event, the only qualifying competition among the events entered by the Lord Botetourt students. Lane earned first place and will advance to represent both the South Ridge Area and Lord Botetourt High School at the state competition. The state event will take place during the State Fair of Virginia in September.
In addition to competing, students attending the rally also participated in a leadership workshop coordinated and hosted by the current Virginia FFA State Officer Team, providing members with an opportunity to develop leadership skills and connect with fellow FFA members from across the region.
