Carson Peggins blasted three-run homers in both games last week as the Lord Botetourt baseball team remained undefeated. Botetourt was 5-0 with Franklin County and Northside on this week’s schedule.
Last Tuesday in Daleville the Cavaliers beat up on William Byrd, 14-3 in five innings. The Terriers are touted as a state contender and they jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but after that it was all LB.
Botetourt tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Cavs then scored three in second, four in the third and four more in the fourth to win by slaughter rule. Starting pitcher Matt Oliver settled down after a shaky start and picked up the win with help from Nate Prince, who pitched the last inning and a third.
Sammy Peery was four-for-four at the plate with four runs batted in for the Cavaliers. Connor Fuhrman was three-for-three with three RBIs, including his second homer of the young season, and Peggins had a three-run bomb for the Cavs.
On Friday at Staunton River, Peggins belted his fourth home run of the year in a 6-0 Cavalier win. Carson has 13 runs batted in over the first four games.
Three different pitchers combined for the shutout. Owen Prince pitched an inning and a third with Peggins finishing the second and pitching the third and fourth. Peery then came on to finish up with three scoreless innings.
The Cavaliers were scheduled to host Franklin County Tuesday, and Friday they go to Northside for a 5 p.m. start.
