Lord Botetourt High School will host the all-girls “Feats of Strength” wrestling tournament next Tuesday, Dec. 23. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. in the main gym at Lord Botetourt High with doors opening to spectators at 8 a.m.
“With the growing popularity of girls wrestling, Lord Botetourt will be the first school to host a girls’ VHSL-sanctioned tournament in the Roanoke Valley,” said LB coach Paul Craft. “Offering a girls’ tournament will help advance the sport of girls’ wrestling along with showing the public how far the skill level has developed.”
This is Lord Botetourt’s first hosted tournament event in nearly 20 years. The tournament was capped at 80 girls.
“It is our hope to expand the tournament next year and have both a boys’ division and girls’ division at the same time,” said Craft.
There are 16 schools anticipated to participate from the Roanoke Valley, Southwest Virginia, West Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia. The top four girls in each of the 12 weight classes will be medalists.
