Mary Ellen Burns Bolton

Mary Ellen Burns Bolton, 90, of Fincastle, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Friendship Health and Rehabilitation.

Mary was born in Roanoke July 27, 1930 and was the daughter of the late John W. and Margie Wood Burns.  She lived in Fincastle most of her life.

Mary was co-owner of R.E. Bolton and Sons grocery in Fincastle and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed hummingbirds, deer, flowers, and sewing.  Mary was a member of Fincastle Garden Club and a very proud volunteer for the American Red Cross.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. “Skeets” Bolton Jr.; and her sister, Nancy Bolton.

Mary is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chip and Anita Bolton of Vinton, John and Robin Bolton of Eagle Rock; daughter, Peggy Bolton-Wise of Fincastle; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Robert) Mauck, Timothy (Sarah) Bolton, Amber (Jarrett) Copeland, and Jennifer Pellican (Mike Howard); six great-grandchildren; long-time friend, Helen Morris; and her beloved cat, Charlie.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19 in Godwin Cemetery in Fincastle with the Rev. David Dickerson officiating.
