St. Mark’s United Methodist Church’s Hustle for the Hungry 5K Timed Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 9 a.m. at Greenfield Park, rain or shine.
The goal is to raise enough funds to pack over 31,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger at 29 cents per meal at the church’s annual fall meal packing event. Hustle for the Hungry provides a family-friendly, fun and competitive way to accomplish this goal, while raising awareness of the hungry.
Timing for 5K runners will be provided by Run Roanoke. Individual runner registration is $29, the same amount to pack 100 of the Rise Against Hunger meals. Individual walker registration is $15. Running or walking families are $45.
Individual registrations received at the church by April 20 will include a T-shirt and family registrations received by that date will include two T-shirts. Registrations received after April 20 will not include T-shirts; however, they may be available for purchase on race day for $10.
For more information or to register, go to www.stmarksmethodist.com or pick up a registration form at St. Mark’s UMC, 19 Cedar Ridge Drive, Daleville. Payment may be made online, by mail, or in person at the church.
Businesses, other churches, or individuals are welcome to sponsor the event. Sponsors will have their name listed on the back of the shirts and in other advertisement. To be a sponsor, the donation must be received by April 10. If you would like to be a sponsor, contact the church at 992-3030 or at hustleforthehungry@gmail.com.
Hustle of the Hungry is sponsored by the church’s TAME committee, which stands for That All Might Eat. Besides the Rise Against Hunger meal packing event, the TAME committee helps those locally by contributing both food and funds to the Botetourt Food Pantry, the Botetourt Resource Center, and the Roanoke Rescue Mission.
