Memorial Walk held in Buchanan

Doves flew across the Buchanan sky following the Memorial Walk.

The Buchanan community gathered for the fourth annual 9-11 Memorial Walk last Saturday in Buchanan Town Park.

Buchanan volunteer firefighter Bill Price led the event and was joined by Botetourt County Fire & EMS Chief Jason Ferguson and Buchanan Mayor Craig Bryant who spoke before the walk.

Ferguson spoke about the rescue workers’ responsibilities during September 11, 2001 and the importance of emergency workers putting on their uniforms today keeping the perspective of remembering the lives lost in deaths related to the 9-11 attacks 21 years ago.

Bryant shared his thoughts adding the importance of including the 9-11 Memorial Walk to Buchanan annual calendar of events.

Following the walk, they released 21 doves in honor of the 21st anniversary of the tragedy. A free showing of the film “Flight 93” aired at the Buchanan Theatre following the event. On Sunday, at 12:30 p.m., the churches on Main Street rang their bells for one minute, honoring the fallen on the 21st anniversary of the tragic events on September 11, 2001.
