Everyone belongs to the YMCA.
That’s an admonition that’s important to those raising funds to build the Botetourt Family YMCA.
The Botetourt Family YMCA represents an exciting opportunity to add a valuable asset to the community as a volunteer-led organization with a mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, according to an announcement by the group raising funds for the new Y.
One of the greatest benefits of having a Y in Botetourt is that it will provide membership and services to all— regardless of their ability to pay.
The YMCA is a non-profit, cause-driven 501 C-3 organization that serves the community, in part, through funds that are raised to provide financial assistance programs and memberships.
“As a cause-driven organization with a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the YMCA of Roanoke Valley, works to ensure everyone, regardless of situation in life, has the opportunity to live life to its fullest,” said Mark Johnson, President and CEO of YMCA of Roanoke Valley.
Last year, 25 percent of YMCA of Roanoke Valley members qualified to receive financial assistance. This allowed young people a chance to achieve their potential, empowered people of all ages to lead healthier lives, and strengthened the bond of the community, Johnson said.
“We are excited about the Y coming to Botetourt County, giving more people the opportunity to experience programs they might not otherwise have access to,” said Johnson.
The Botetourt Family YMCA plans to break ground in late summer of this year thanks to the numerous donations from community members and local businesses.
