Metro Cross Country meet is today in Blacksburg

The 47th annual Metro Cross Country meet is scheduled for today at Blacksburg High School. Both Lord Botetourt and James River are entered in the meet along with most of the schools in the greater Roanoke Valley.

Lord Botetourt is coming off a run in the annual “Runnin’ with the Wolves” meet at Jefferson Forest last Saturday. The annual event is one of the more popular races with the high school runners and 20 boys teams and 15 girls teams competed in the varsity races.

The Lord Botetourt girls finished sixth as a team as the Pacers Homeschool team took first place. Kayla Werner of the Homeschool team was the individual winner in a time of 18:29.6.

Lord Botetourt’s top runner was Sydney Vokus in 11th place with a time of 20:31. Ella Johnston took 20th in 21:14 and Erna Dietrich was 23rd in 21:38. Also scoring for LB were Hatlyn Haggerty in 57th and Katie Cross in 64th, as 104 girls finished the race.

Host Jefferson Forest was the team winner in the boys race and Brannon Adams of the Cavaliers was the individual winner in a time of 16:143.8.  LB was 16th as a team with Cole Stelter leading the Cavs with a 24th place finish in 18:20.  Also scoring were Tristan Dodson in 7th, Raymond Cobb in 86th, Gage Hornback in 116th and Jonah Clark in 117th. There were 136 runners in the boys race. Ethan Thorne finished ninth in the middle school boys 5K race.
