Miller lowers JR 1600, 3200 records, wins both at Colonels Classic

James River’s Lauren Ogle placed 5th in the 100 m dash (13.11) and later won the 300 m hurdles at the Colonel Classic.
James River’s Will Miller was a double champion at the Colonel Classic, winning the 1600 and 3200 m races on Saturday.
Lord Botetourt’s Cassie Feltis hands off to teammate Lexi Haston in the 4×100 m relay. The Cavalier girls placed 11th overall with a time of 54.68.
Lord Botetourt’s Ethan Clower placed 21st in the 100 m dash at the Colonel Classic.

The James River and Lord Botetourt track teams competed in the Colonel Classic at William Fleming High School Saturday. Both teams had some strong performances in the first big meet of the spring season.

The William Fleming boys won the team title and the Colonels tied Salem for first in the girls meet. River’s boys were eighth and the girls were fourth, while LB took 18th in the boys meet and 19th in the girls standings.

Sophomore Will Miller had a big day for River, winning both the 1600 and 3200 and setting school records in both events. Will ran a time of 4:27 in the 1600 and 9:47 in the 3200.

Miller also ran on the fifth place 4×800 relay team with Will Fowler, Logan Vinson and Daniel Holter. Fowler was third in the 800.

In the field events, Cameron Dennis took fourth in both the shot and discus. Logan Williamson was sixth in the shot.

For the girls, River’s Lauren Ogle had a big day with a first place in the 300 hurdles, a fifth in the 100-meter dash and a sixth in the 200. Lauren had a state qualifying time in the hurdles.

Katelyn Wiley had a state qualifying run in the 400, finishing second. She also ran on the third place 4×400 relay team with Kerri Wiley, Abigail Link and Erin Walker. The 4×800 team of Link, Emma Butler, Grace Montgomery and Tessa Jones was fourth, and Breanna Zicafoose took fifth in the discus.

LB’s Reyna Petry was sixth in the 100 hurdles and Carmen Petry was seventh in the 300 hurdles. Lexi Haston took ninth in the 100 hurdles and Haley Saunders was ninth in the high jump.

Max Burke of LB took a fourth place in the boys high jump and was also sixth in the 110 hurdles. Nicholas Francis and Jake McNutt were ninth and 10th in the discus, while Connor Hayes took 10th in the 1600.
