In just 10 days, the Fincastle Fall Festival will open on September 26 at 10 a.m. on Main Street, Roanoke Street and Academy Street. During the past two weeks you may have read about the Quilt Show, the crafters, the food vendors, the antique car show, the library book sale, the Touch-A-Truck, the Fincastle Company Encampment, and the Botetourt Museum of History and Culture. Here are a couple more activities that will be going on that day around the center of town.
There will be two music venues. The front porch of the Chamber of Commerce building beside First Bank on Roanoke Street will have students of Mike Lee performing during the day: 10 a.m., Avery Saunders; 11 a.m., Alexis Chocolate; noon, Kim Bennett; 1 p.m., Austin Mayres; 2 p.m., Kaeli Berry; 3 p.m., Ruby Boblett.
The Music Tent next to Conviction Coffee (on the old courthouse square) will feature Easy Pickins at 10 a.m.; Deepwoods Still at noon; and The Henry Downing Band at 2 p.m.
The Quilts of Valor presentation honoring two veterans from Botetourt County will take place at 11:30 a.m. on the porch of the Saunders House (the old Baptist church) outside of the Quilt Show.
Children are encouraged to visit the petting zoo at Wysong Park. There will be ducks, alpacas, donkeys and more. There will also be period games for children in the yard behind the museum and maybe games at the Fincastle Company Encampment.
Every year, the festival features a blacksmith. This year will be no different. In addition to a blacksmith, the Wysong Blacksmith Shop will also have the new “school for blacksmithing classes” set up. All the plans for the classes have not been “hammered out,” but those interested will have an opportunity to sign up for more information as well as see the changes in the blacksmith shop.
Entries for the Peggy Davis Art Show should be submitted by September 17 to teachers, the library in Fincastle, Eagle Rock, Buchanan or Blue Ridge, or a branch of First Bank in Fincastle, Troutville, Cloverdale/Hollins, or Blue Ridge.
The information booth in the center of town will have a selection of HFI souvenirs including the newest design for a T-shirt.
