The James River girls saw their soccer season come to an end last week with a loss to Nelson County in the Region 2C soccer tournament. The host Governors took a 2-1 win in Lovingston.
The two teams had split games during the regular season, and this one went down to the wire before Nelson prevailed. The Governors scored two first period goals to take the lead but Drew Whitson scored early in the second period to draw River to within a goal. However, that was the last score of the night and Nelson advanced in the tournament while River saw the season come to an end at 8-10.
“I am really proud of the improvements our girls made over the season and the way they carried themselves in tough times,” said River coach Bill Smith. “I would love to have done better, but I wouldn’t trade our time together for anything.”
