The Blue Ridge District tournament softball championship game will be held at Northside High School’s Lynn Richmond Field on Friday at 5 p.m. Semifinal games were scheduled for Tuesday, too late for press deadlines, with the Lord Botetourt girls playing at Franklin County in one semifinal and William Byrd at Staunton River in the other.
The Cavaliers come into the week at 11-10 overall and they’re on a roll after going 3-0 last week. On Wednesday of last week they knocked out 23 hits in an 18-1 win over Blacksburg. Abby Perkey drove in five runs on four hits to lead the offense and had one of three LB home runs along with Callie Shuler and Oliva Pierce. Olivia fanned 10 to pick up the win in the circle.
On Friday LB celebrated the seniors with a 16-10 win against Northside in Daleville. Botetourt collected 12 hits on the day with Pierce having five RBIs and going three-for-three. Pierce pitched the majority of the game and struck out 13 with Phoenix Humphries finishing up.

On Saturday morning LB had a make-up game at Cave Spring. The host Knights led this one 2-1 after six innings but in the top of the seventh inning Bailey Hutchins tripled to right to keep the Cavaliers alive. Then, with two outs and two strikes, Pierce hit a home run to centerfield for a 3-2 lead and Olivia pitched a shutout bottom of the inning to seal the win.
“I am so proud of our girls for fighting from start to finish in this game,” said coach Megan Cook. “It was a great win for us.”
The Region 3D tournament is next week and LB is still waiting for the final rankings with the top eight qualifying for the tournament.
