SIMMONS, Hugh N.
Hugh Norwood Simmons, 83, of Troutville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 8, 2018.
Hugh was born on July 10, 1935 to the late Harry Norwood and Dorothy Obenchain Simmons. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Lee Simmons; brothers-in-law, Calvin Montgomery and Sherman Simmons; sister-in-law, Ruby Tolley; and niece, Janet Simmons.
His is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Johnson Simmons; sons, Steven Lynn Simmons, and wife, Donna; Danny Lee Simmons and wife, Julie; grandson, Jason Simmons and wife, Christina; granddaughters, Jessica Simmons and Stephanie Simmons; other grandchildren, Chelsey Craft and husband, Jared and Erik Wampler; great-grandsons, Kai, Axel, Ryland, and Jayce; great-granddaughters, Jazzlyn and Ivie; sisters-in-law, Virginia Montgomery and Dot Simmons; nephews, David Simmons, Lewis Montgomery and wife, Kathy, Eddie Johnson and wife, Nancy; nieces, Tammy Coffey and husband, Jeffery, and Janie Coley and husband, Bobby; along with several great-nephews and great-nieces.
Hugh started his career in his earlier years in the auto body repair and trucking industry. He then went on to start his own business, Hugh’s Body Shop and Truck Service, where he single handedly built his first wrecker. He then grew his family business to be one of the largest towing companies in the state of Virginia. Hugh took great pride in his fleet of wreckers being top notch and being readily available to serve his community in their time of need.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Good Samaritan for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. WILSON, James W.
James Willie Wilson, 94, of Troutville, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018.
He was a member of the Community Advent Christian Church, a Veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in WWII, and retired from General Electric in Salem.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances B. Wilson; his parents, James and Elizabeth Wilson; two brothers, Leon Wilson, Bruce Wilson; and sister, Lois Wall.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Danny Kyle; son and daughter-in-law, David and Robin Wilson; two grandsons, Ian Kyle and Zachary Kyle and wife, Rebecca; and two great-grandchildren, Lukas and Daniel Kyle.
A memorial service was held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, at Oakey’s East Chapel with Pastor T.G. Ayers officiating. Arrangements were by Oakey’s East Chapel.
BRUCE, Janice F.
Janice Faye Bruce, 71, of Eagle Rock, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mason Houck; mother, Ruby Clark; sisters, Anna L. Milani and Sandra L. Jenkins.
She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Samuel “Bill” Bruce; daughters, Lisa Brooks and fiancée, Darryl Dinwiddie; Lenore Owens; step-daughter, Carlyn Ruble and husband, Ricky; step-sons, David Bruce and wife, Kimberly; Doug Bruce and wife, Dee Dee; sister, E. Jane Goldberg; brother, Kenny Houck; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous other family and many friends.
Visitation will be held at 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, September 12 with memorial services at 4 p.m. at the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Pastor David Cox officiating.
