The Lord Botetourt golfers had their annual “Cavalier Cup” event at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club last week and the team of Brett Pennington, Kaitlyn Mosdell and Logan Hollandsworth came out on the top.

The “Cavalier Cup” is an intra-squad competition among Botetourt players. This year the cup consisted of breaking the team into three teams of three individuals and they played five holes a day, using an adjusted “Stableford” scoring format.  Golfers get one point for a bogey, two points for a par, three points for a birdie, four points for an eagle and five points for a double eagle.

Team Pennington, consisting of Pennington, Mosdell and Hollandsworth, won the event with a two-day total of 55 points. Team Lograsso, consisting of Kyle Lograsso, Tucker Grimshaw and Ashton Harper, came in second with 52 points. Team Crump, who had Joe Crump, Samir Davidov and Jacob Vance, came in third with 45 points.

Pennington, Davidov and Grimshaw all tied for medalist with 21 points each.

The Cavaliers were scheduled to be back in action Tuesday at home against Blacksburg. The last district match is at Blue Hills on Thursday, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, James River placed second in a tri-match with Giles and Alleghany on Monday.  Mitchell Boone led the Knights with a score of 84 on the day, followed by Dakota Peery with a 94. Giles won the day with a 343, River had 382, and Alleghany 413.

The Knights are scheduled to play at Hanging Rock Thursday if the weather cooperates.
