Megan Elizabeth Odenwelder, a member of the Troutville Church of the Brethren and a 2020 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, received a $1,000scholarship on May 15. This scholarship was given in the memory of Richard A. Newton by his family. Richard was also a member of the Troutville Church of the Brethren and passed away on February 22, 2014.

The scholarship recognizes Megan for her dedication to the church and its programs, as well as continuing her education. Megan has served as a counselor at Camp Bethel for the past three years and is a member of the Botetourt Youth Group. This Christian group of young people presents their program in churches as well as a variety of settings. While in school Megan was involved in several clubs including a Senior Class representative of the Key Club and Help Save the Next Girl.

Megan will be attending Longwood University in the fall with an emphasis on pursuing a degree in Social Work.

She is the daughter of Robert and Leigh Ann Odenwelder and granddaughter of Judy Newman of Vinton and the late Darlene Bower Odenwelder of Troutville.
