Persons interested in starting their own outdoor recreation business are invited to a free “Adventure Tourism Workshop” Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Greenfield Education and Training Center north of Daleville from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

The workshop outlines the opportunities, best practices and the steps required to launch a successful adventure tourism business, according to Botetourt Tourism Director Kevin Costello. It is open to persons throughout the region. Outdoor recreation is the fastest growing aspect of tourism throughout the world, according to the organizers.

While the workshop is free, registration required and space is limited to 100. Due to limited space, preference will be given to new and existing entrepreneurs.

The workshop will include an update on tourism developments in the region where those attending will hear from successful business owners in this industry and learn from professionals about business startup and expansion in Virginia as they provide the steps required to launch, market and finance a business.

The idea is to provide folks interested in starting an outdoor adventure business a chance to connect to resources that can jumpstart their tourism venture, Costello said.

The workshop is sponsored by Botetourt County, Franklin County, Roanoke Regional Partnership, Allegany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Virginia Department of Business Assistance.

To register, go to www.VAstartup.org or call Costello at 473-1167. Directions to Greenfield can be found at http://www.botetourt.org/business/documents/directions_getc.pdf.
