Albert Pacello, 81, of Cloverdale, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center following a short-term battle with lymphoma.

Albert was born October 10, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York and was the son of the late Albert J. and Helen Kraulis Pacello. He lived in Cloverdale since 1997.

Albert worked in finance for 25years and retired as a Medic in the United States Army. A real “Renaissance Man,” he was an avid gun collector, cook, gardener, and painter in oils and watercolors. Albert loved his dogs and he and Judy travelled extensively all over the world. He was a member of Church of the Transfiguration, Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 1841, Ridge Rifle Range and the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Janet D’Angelo Pacello; brother, Frank Pacello; and sister-in-law, Judy Gilligan.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judy Gilligan Pacello; son and daughter-in-law, Peter A. and Melanie Oppel of Freeland, Pa.; grandson, Nick Oppel (Devyn Lauer) of Bloomsburg, Pa.; and cousin, Joe (Adele) Pacello of Staten Island, New York.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, February 3 at Church of the Transfiguration, 7624 Roanoke Road, Fincastle, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass in the church narthex. Burial with military honors will be in Godwin Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10001.
