Paving and curb-milling work is underway on streets throughout historic Fincastle, with the project having begun Monday.
The work is taking place essentially on all streets on the east side of U.S. 220, according to the town manager. Streets closest to the courthouse construction area will not be paved until that construction project is completed.
No Parking signs have been placed throughout town advising motorists that street parking is prohibited from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. while the work is being completed.
Adams Paving, the contractor performing the work, is attempting to avoid school bus times, according to the town manager. Crews also will knock on doors if vehicles are parked on a street when they reach that particular area.
Residents who park vehicles on gravel lots adjacent to paved streets are asked to move their vehicles at least three feet away from the street to allow crews sufficient room to complete the work.
Town officials have been contacting residents and others in the community to make them aware of the project and help minimize disruptions.
The town acknowledged that the paving project may cause some temporary inconvenience but said officials are looking forward to the improvements.
“Hopefully, this disruption will not be too excessive but I look forward to having some nice streets,” Town Manager Melanie McFadyen said in the announcement last week.
