Roy Petty, 79 of Venice, Fla., passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on December 25, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Doris Petty, and his beloved grandson, Justin Eric Simmons.
Roy is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 58 years; daughters, Kristie Simmons (Ron) and Kim Petty, all of Botetourt County; son-in-law, Jason Bramlett; grandchildren, Taylor Carlson (Noah), Connor Bramlett, Josh Simmons and Jeremy Simmons; sisters, Nancy Simmons (Richard), Sarah Rawlings (Glenn) and Ruth Bush (Ed); brother, Charlie Petty (Pam); and brother-in-law, Gene Simmons (Phyllis).
Roy graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 1962 where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. It was also there he found the love of his life, Phyllis. Roy graduated from VPI, now Virginia Tech.
He will be greatly missed, and we are comforted by our confidence that he now resides in Heaven. A private ceremony will be scheduled at a later date.
